Latest news and campaign updates from the Arise movement

Social Media

We recently started posting on Linked In.  In addition to our three other social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  We are seeking to grow the number of people who follow the Arise movement on social media.  Please do follow us on these channels if you don’t already, and forward on to your friends and contacts.  It’s a great way to spread the news about Christians coming alive in our faith and transforming the world around us.  (17 March 2025)

Biodiversity funding

Some good news came from Rome at the end of February.  The governments of the world reconvened for the COP16 Biodiversity Summit, following talks ending without reaching conclusions at the end of last year.  They agreed a roadmap to raise $200 billion annually to protect nature and biodiversity.  This is a major step forward.  It is a victory for Arise members who have been campaigning on this crucial issue, adding their voices to those of others around the world.  (6 March 2025)

UK and US aid cuts

We have given several updates since the beginning of 2025 celebrating campaign successes.  But every campaign has setbacks too.  We were deeply saddened to see the news of the cuts to the UK aid budget this week.  Defence spending does need to increase, but there are other options to fund this, rather than taking it from the world’s poorest.  Our latest blog explores this further.  (1 March 2025)

Prime Minister letter

Arise was thrilled to join with UK international development and environment organisations in signing a joint letter to the Prime Minister in association with the Mandela +20 campaign this month.  The letter called on the UK to be a “progressive, engaged international actor” and do the right thing on social justice, poverty reduction and the environment.  We achieve more when we work together - so it's great to see this powerful joint effort.  (17 February 2025)

Campaign partnerships

Arise is continuing to build campaigning partnerships with great organisations who share our passion for taking action on social injustice, extreme poverty and environmental sustainability.  This month we are taking part in the Mandela +20 campaign, raising all these issues with government in partnership with Bond and ONE.  Next month we are speaking with members of Latin Link and Christians on the Left.  We achieve so much more when we work together.  Look out for new campaign partnerships soon.  (13 February 2025)

Weekly Actions B.png

Monthly actions

From February, in response to feedback from Arise members, we are trialling rescheduling our actions from one a week to one a month.  These will rotate between our three main campaigns. This will give a consistent focus of a whole month for each action.  We will keep producing blogs each week to share Christian perspectives on the major events happening in our world.  Let us know what you think of this new schedule.  We love your feedback info@ariseuk.org (3 February 2025)

UK climate plans

On Thursday 30 January the UK government submitted its plans to the UN climate change process on how it will deliver an 81% cut on greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.  This is an ambitious and welcome plan, that we hope will influence other nations to also submit similar positive plans.  Such ambition is something Arise activists have long been praying and campaigning for.  This is another encouraging step forward.  Your efforts have played a part, alongside many others.  Thank you and well done.  (31 January 2025)

Gaza ceasefire

The whole world has been relieved and encouraged by the ceasefire that came into effect in Gaza on Sunday 19 January.  Arise activists have been campaigning and praying for a ceasefire ever since the conflict began.  Your efforts and prayers have played a part, along with those of millions of others, in helping to keep up sustained international diplomatic pressure.  We will together keep up prayer and pressure for relief, rebuilding and a lasting peace.
